Issue: Verizon SuperPages Strikes Distribution Deal with [email protected]

News:  In late December, Verizon Information Services signed a two-year agreement with [email protected] to become the exclusive Yellow Pages and White Pages provider for a network of destination sites and portals that includes Excite.com, Home.Excite.com and WebCrawler.com. WorldPages had been the Yellow Pages provider for Excite since June 1999.

The deal is based on a pay-per-search model, whereby Verizon agrees to pay Excite an undisclosed sum every time the company's SuperPages online shopping directory is searched from an Excite property. Although Verizon and Excite announced their new partnership on January 17, the portal network has been linking to the SuperPages site since late December.
