Site Merges the Best of SuperPages, BigYellow Sites
Verizon Information Services announced the re-launch of its SuperPages
online shopping directory. This also marked the official end of the BigYellow
Internet Yellow Pages (IYP) brand. The two sites had joined forces to
share a common platform and database more than a year before their parent
companies, GTE and Bell Atlantic, merged to form what is now Verizon.
Post-merger, there seemed little reason to maintain separate identities.
The new SuperPages
rolls out several important new features, including MerchantMatch, a reverse
auction service; enhanced listings, using Verizon telco data; and EZChooser,
a comparative car-shopping engine. In addition, the site features SuperTopics,
a variation on the BigTopics ontology that was a standout in the old BigYellow,
and also Web-clipping applications for the Palm VII and WAP-enabled wireless
