Issue: Are Independent
Publishers Too Inwardly Focused?
with the incumbent publishers is the stated goal of the Association of
Directory Publishers, an association representing independent Yellow Pages
publishers, predominantly in the United States. In his address to more
than 300 attendees at the ADP's recent annual meeting in Savannah, Georgia,
ADP Chairman Ken Brock laid down a marker for independent publishers as
a category to reach revenues of US$7 billion by 2010, roughly six and
a half years away. To achieve this, Brock pointed out, independent publishers
would need to grow about 17 percent each year through 2010 in real terms.
Brock pointed out that this is an achievable objective given the recent
performance of independent publishers, which have been consolidating and
expanding at a frantic pace over the past few years.
