Launches Spanish-Language, Canadian Versions
week, Verizon Information Services became the first major U.S. directory
publisher to launch a domestic Spanish-language Internet Yellow Pages,
SuperPages.com en Espanol.
Publishers and stand-alone
Web companies have long wanted to tap into the U.S. Hispanic market, which
includes some 1.2 million Hispanic-owned businesses and 14 million Hispanic
Internet users. Verizon had already entered select markets on the print
side, with a variety of bilingual flip-books last year. The new online
product is consistent with Verizon's overall North America strategy to
provide a unified brand in print and online.
Verizon also launched
another product this week - SuperPages.ca - in conjunction with its recently
acquired Telus Advertising Services, which combined with Verizon's Dominion
Information Services property in Canada. With the look and feel of its
parent's site, this Internet Yellow Pages is Verizon's first online foray
north of the border. Verizon will be competing directly with Bell ActiMedia's
online Yellow Pages, yellowpages.ca.
