SMARTpages Deals Seek to Boost Traffic and Usage

Summary: In the past two weeks, SBC's SMARTpages.com has announced two partnerships intended to boost traffic and enhance the user experience. The deals, with WhitePages.com and Ingenio, respectively, suggest that SMARTpages.com is entering a new phase of development after watching numerous rivals upgrade and enhance their sites as the competition for local search heats up.

In the case of WhitePages.com, SMARTpages is supporting the "business search" function on the White Pages site. SBC expects a 25 percent increase in traffic as a result of the deal. The Ingenio partnership has placed a "click-to-call" icon next to every advertiser listing on SMARTpages.com. When users click on that icon, a pop-up window prompts them to enter a phone number, which initiates a call free to the consumer. That capability is expected to improve the overall site experience and help facilitate more merchant-consumer calls directly in response to SMARTpages.com ads.
