Summary: Pure Web crawling wont create a compelling local search user experience. Yahoo! understands this. Accordingly, the new Yahoo! Local is a mix of elements and product features that blends structured and unstructured data and draws upon the broader Yahoo! content network. Clearly Yahoo! Local isnt complete and isnt perfect. But what is striking is the strategic direction the company has taken and how Yahoo! has created a structured yet flexible framework that seeks to emphasize and more organically elicit user-generated content (including small business data). That framework includes MyWeb and Yahoo! 360.

Many different moving parts have been brought together in Yahoo! Local, the gestalt of which is a powerful mix of content and functionality in a single environment, a kind of local-content gateway.
